A frameless back and Y-shaped support bar allow for both high-end design and back support in this Herman Miller office chair.
The newest addition to the Herman Miller line was designed by Yves Behar, and inspired by the construction of suspension bridges. After over 1,000 sketches and 70 prototypes, the SAYL task chair was finally born. The minimalist design utilizes a frameless back with only a Y-shaped support. The injection-molded material creates sacral, lumbar, and spinal support and uses ‘hinge points’ to automatically adapt to each user’s body. At $400, the new chair enters the competition with other high-end office chairs, and makes the Herman Miller design more accessible than its predecessor, the $860 Aeron.
