IMDb Acquires Film Service Without A Box

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) Amazon subsidiary is acquiring Without a Box, a service that connects indie filmmakers to film festivals.

Amazon.com subsidiary the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Without a Box, a Los Angeles-based company that has developed exclusive online tools designed to connect independent filmmakers to film festivals in 20 countries. Without a Box will continue to run as an independent operation; financial terms of the acquisition were not revealed.

“Our mission has always been to provide film lovers around the world with the most comprehensive movie-, TV-, and celebrity-related information,” said Colin Bryar, Vice President, IMDb. “Working with Without a Box, we can offer our viewers even more great film-related content.”

The deal should be a good one for Without a Box as well: more than 50 million visitors check in with the IMDb every month to look for information on films, television shows, actors, and other entertainment information. IMDb offers a high-interconnected online database of more than 1 million films and television shows. The additional exposure should enable Without a Box to more easily connect independent films with a wider audience.
