Is That Dog Lost? No, He’s On The GPS

Is That Dog Lost? No, He

A new GPS device for dog collars means finding your pooch anywhere, anytime — but it will cost you $250.

They’re calling it SpotLight, and if your Spot has a habit of roaming, it could be ideal for you. It’s a tiny GPS unit that attaches to a dog’s collar and lets you find him if he’s decided to hit the road.

At 2.5 ounces, it’s tiny and lightweight, which is more than can be said for the $250 plus monthly fee the American Kennel Club (AKC) is charging for the device. However, it means you can track Fido and find out where he is via PC, smartphone or cell. Or owners can simply call or text the AKC, which will provide the dog’s location.

Owners can also activate an LED light on the device from computers or handsets via a text message. They can set up what’s called a SafeSpot – say, home or yard – and if the dog moves outside that area, be alerted by a message, or multiple messages if they set up multiple SafeSpots.

SpotLight will be available next month.
