Load Up Your iPod At The CD Store

Ripfactory has created a device that lets you transfer the contents of your new CD or DVD to a portable device in the store.

A new in-store device is going to let you rip that CD or DVD to your portable device or mobile even before you leave the shop.   Called CD2, the device, which is essentially a kiosk, allows thepurchaser to transfer the content of the CD or DVD tohis iPod, MP3 player or mobile phone. It’s generated interest both in the UK and North America, and its makers, Ripfactory, has alreadysigned a deal with a major UK chain, which is introducing the kiosk into its stores in both Britain and the US.   According to Ripfactory managingdirector Patrick McGrath, part of the kiosk’s appeal is its ease.   “Once you’ve bought your CDs over the counter you just pop them into the kiosk in the shop, plug in your iPod orMP3 player, and it will transfer all the content then and there, within a matter of a few minutes.”   The kiosk, which launched in June in London, can load up to four CDs at a time anduses a touch screen. It can also transfer cover art and the standard meta tags of track listing and album title.
