Master Lock to Offer Biometric Door Opener

Maker of padlocks parnters with a biometric security products company to begin selling a garage door opener which uses fingerprint detection to open the door.

Master Lock, known for thier padlocks and other mechanical security products, is going high tech with the unveiling of a partnership with bioMETRX, a developer of consumer biometric enabled products. This partnership will bring a version of bioMETRX’s finger activated garage door opener to the Master Lock brand.

The Master Lock smartTOUCH GDO, based on the bioMETRX smartTOUCH GDO, makes use of biometric technology to allow authorized people, such as children or grandparents, to open and close a garage door at the touch of a finger. The sensor, which is weatherproof and installs outside, sends a wireless signal, much in the same way a garage remote control does, to the door’s opener. No PIN codes are required and Master Lock claims the device is easy to set up.

The Master Lock smartTOUCH GDO, which will debut this summer, did not have a retail price announced as of yet. The non-branded bioMETRX version of the product costs $200.
