Mobile Edge Intros TSA-Friendly Cases

Mobile Edge has introduced a series of notebook cases designed to let users get through airport checkpoints without removing their computers.

Notebook case maker Skooba Design has been getting some attention for announcing new notebook cases designed to let users get through airport security checkpoints without having to remove their notebooks. Now, Mobile Edge is getting in on the game, announcing three new “checkpoint friendly” ScanFast notebook cases. The cases were designed in response to requests from the Transportation Security Administration for cases that can be X-rayed without removing notebooks, and which conveniently open for security screeners to see the case’s contents. The idea is to speed security checkpoints by not requiring notebook users to unpack (and repack) their computers just to get through.

“This is an unprecedented request by the TSA to help relieve some of the congestion at checkpoint locations nation wide,” said Mobile Edge president and CEO G. David Cartwright, in a statement. “We wanted to produce a range of laptop cases that were compliant with the new TSA guidelines and yet were still both stylish and functional, and we did just that.”

Mobile Edge plans to offer a backpack, messenger bag, and a traditional briefcase-style bag. The cases will handle “all popular models” of notebook computers, and will be covered by Mobile Edge’s lifetime warranty.

Mobile Edge hasn’t announced any pricing information for the ScanFast bags, but says they should be available in late summer.
