The Chongqing Chaotianmen by Safdie Architects is a mixed-use modern building planned for Chongqing, China. This modern building looks to inject a futuristic feel to the city, while honoring China's rich and ancient history.
We’re certainly jealous of all the amazing new architectural wonders that seem to be planned for China. Many of the most groundbreaking new structures from various firms are being proposed and planned for world’s most populous country. Added to that very exciting list, by way of international firm Safdie Architects, is the Chongqing Chaotianmen mixed-use complex located in Chongqing, China.
Safdie Architects latest project will be situated at the intersecting point of two rivers, the Yangtze and Jialing. In keeping with local customs and tradition, the building will feature eight towers facing north honoring the area’s history during the time of China’s great Emperors. The towers are said to be a modern representation of a fleet of ancient Chinese ships.
Aside from honoring China’s rich history, the building itself will contain both a hotel and private residences, offices spaces and a large garden bridge linking the various towers. The hotel aspect will feature a restaurant as well as a nightclub.
Lastly, the Chongqing Chaotianmen will provide spaces for public programs, including cultural facilities, a conference center, retail space, and a theater.
