It really is easy to forget the gross separation of wealth in Mumbai and a lot of the Middle Eastern nations that are home to similarly stunning displays of architecture while still facing suffocating amounts of poverty that is just continuously ignored.

Definitely good to take another look at stories like this.

This is some beautiful architecture. However, just yesterday I gave a presentation regarding Mumbai's slums, the largest of their kind in the world. The government of the state is trying to remove the slum dwellers to make way for luxury apartments for the wealthy. Unfortunately, in the process, hundreds of thousands if not millions of people are being threatened with eviction and destruction of their homes.

Growth is the goal for BRIC countries, but they need to provide for their own first. It's understandable that they will want to cater to the wealthy investors in order to bring in business, however, I don't believe that development will be successful without the inclusion of the nation's own people! They need to focus on developing the human capital in their nations, provide free education for those living in poverty and enjoy the social returns!

Mumbai can continue to build and develop, but if they choose to ignore the millions of those living in extreme poverty with $1/day wages, they will be faced with plenty of unrest that will surely disript their development projects.
