Good to see a helpful review of the product, I have read half a dozen sites and the some say its to heavy but they don't own one, others say its not practical and they say that there little gas stove are so much better, well until it runs out of fuel. Even if it only charges a phone a little bit, if your backpacking for a long trip and you want to update your family your still alive it works great, now if you want to watch movies on your phone you probably don't need to go hiking for that long of a trip. The biggest downfall I see it weighs almost as much as my tent.

when I was testing it out I made a point to try starting a fire with wet wood, and honestly it was practically impossible -- even with fire starters. That being said however, I also found that it can handle wet wood just fine as long as the fire is already going and has been burning for a while. You're definitely right though -- whisperlites are far more ideal in wet conditions. ..but then again most people don't camp/backpack during seasons where wood bits will be completely soaked through.

Looks awesome. One problem I'm foreseeing is what about when it rains? Then all your potential fuel would be wet. I guess you could try to carry some sticks with you... But if you're expecting it to rain ever, that would definitely be a win for the WhisperLite IMO

I like many other Biolite owners refused to believe the instructions (just like Drew Prindle) that you should start the fire at the top on the burn chamber already filled with sticks! It defies logic but the fire starts instantly every time. Lite a twig, place it on top of all the other sticks level with the top and put on a few more twigs to get a fire going, then start the fan. Roaring flames in seconds! Trying to start it in the bottom is for noobs.
