		<description>Well, it&#039;s been 8 months but Slacker has finally announced that their portable music players are available for pre-order. According to the official site, the portable units will begin shipping on or before December 13, 2007. I&#039;ve already ordered one of the 8GB units (although the price is a bit steep at $300).</description>

		<description>It looks like a really interesting bit of kit - but I wonder if they are missing a trick by going for a standalone device rahter than trying to integrate it with mobile phones.&lt;br /&gt;

I work in Europe on a very similar product which is branded Vodafone RadioDJ, which streams personalised channels to 3G handsets.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It avoids making the user carry an extra music-only device with them as well as their phone, and I wonder how Slacker will compete in the US once the iPhone is actually on the market</description>
