Sony Electronics Shows Off Pimped Garage

Electronics giant opens the doors to their revamped Mobile Electronics Technology Center attached to their San Diego, California based corporate headquarters.

Sony Electronics last night showed off every techie’s dream garage as they invited folks to their San Diego digs to check out the revamped Mobile Electronics Technology Center. This new 2,700 square foot facility is part of their corporate headquarters campus.

The METC, according to a Sony Electronics press release, is the company’s installation facility used to test Sony’s in-car entertainment products, conduct installations for Sony’s tripped out custom rides and support its dealers. It contains two installation bays and two lifts that allow storage of four vehicles, among other garage like features.

To celebrate the opening, Sony overhauled San Diego Chargers’ running back LaDanian Tomlinson’s 2004 Range Rover. Put into the pimped out ride by a “dream team” of Sony car techies were, among other goodies, two pairs of 6-1/2 inch mid-bass speakers with tweeters, two 12-inch subwoofers, one DVD/CD player, two 12-inch location free touch screen televisions and a rear view camera.

“The Mobile Electronics Technology Center allows Sony to stay in touch with the car audio market and helps us deliver real-time support to our Xplod dealers across the United States,” says Andrew Sivori, general manager of Sony’s Mobile Electronics division. “With the METC, Sony can continually develop and evaluate products for our customer. The shop also provides the ideal space for completing top of the line vehicle customizations that showcase our Xplod mobile audio and video products.”
