When most major airlines announced several years ago they would begin charging passengers a checked baggage fee even for the first item, people were outraged. Then, we all just learned how to pack more efficiently in a carry-on bag. If you’re still one of those people who need just a little more space without wanting to pay the baggage fee, perhaps an investment in the Stuffa puffer vest could do the trick.
The Stuffa jacket is no ordinary piece of outerwear. While keeping you warm, the jacket can also hold an impressive amount of clothing and miscellaneous accessories in its compartments. Gizmag had the opportunity to review the jacket and managed to stuff ”a pair of jeans, a light hoodie, a pair of long shorts, four t-shirts, six pairs of socks, four pairs of gentleman’s undergarments, and a winter scarf” into the garment’s 12 pockets. However, the site did note that the puffer comes without zippers or buttons to securely hold your items in place but didn’t think your clothes would randomly pop out of the elastic pockets.
For those traveling on short trips, the Stuffa jacket might also be an interesting alternative to bringing a bag entirely. Having everything you need on you could be a more versatile way to travel, especially during camping or hiking trips. Be aware, however, that the Stuffa jacket is made of nylon and is water-resistant, not waterproof. Any electronics stored inside while you’re trekking on a rainy day could still prove to be dangerous. Of course, users should also note that traveling with all your clothes weighted on you could get uncomfortable. You can alleviate this weight by even distributing your items around the pockets on the jacket, but it’s unlikely to make the wear significantly more comfortable during prolonged use. Wonder how long this concept can keep up before airlines count these types of garment as a ‘personal item.’
If you’re up for being thrifty and taking everything you need on a trip literally on you, the Stuffa is slated to hit the general market this November. You’ll have the option of black or red colors, with men’s and women’s sizing from Small to XL at a retail value of $148 apiece.
