The white iPhone is a whole different animal when it comes to looking for cases. We've done the testing and show you our favorites to go with your clean white phone.
If you have the white version of the iPhone, you may have noticed that it’s a little bit harder to find cases for it that look as good with your shiny Apple gadget. Our idea for this article came from personal experience — we have a few white iPhones around the office, and liking the minimal look, we have leaned toward clear or white cases that show off the phone’s design. Much to our disappointment, many of the cases we tried ended up filthy after just a few days use, or even after just a few minutes in the pocket of a pair of jeans in one such case. Discouraged by the number of cases that are now sitting in our desk drawers looking like they were used for a whole year, we thought it important to give our readers a fair warning and show off a selection of cases that we do like for the white iPhone 4 or 4s.
Speck Candyshell in white, $35
This one is for those who want to preserve the look of the iPhone but still want superior protection. The Candyshell’s hard outside case and soft silicone inside makes this one of the best cases to protect against drops and falls. It’s a little on the bulky side because of this, but perfect for folks worried about dropping their phone. The case is available in white with various accent colors.
Incase Bird’s Nest snap case, $35
We like this case for its unique design, and the taupe color (it does come in other colors via the Apple store) looks great with the bright white of the phone. The case is only a snap case, though, so it provides somewhat minimal protection.
Elago Slide in coral blue, $14
This case has a basic slim-fitting slider design that protects the front edges of the iPhone, but we will admit that we mostly like it for the great color. The case is available in a variety of colors, but we think this minty turquoise is a perfect complement to the white phone. The brand also sells bottoms for the case separately, so users can mix and match colors for a more unique look.
Kensington Capsule case, $20
This looks like a pretty simple slider case, but it is the only all-white case we have tried that managed to stay clean after use. It’s slim-fitting and will protect all corners of your phone from bumps and bruises. If you don’t like the small logo, try any other white case that has a hard, shiny shell. Anything marketed as “soft touch” or with a sticky feel in light colors will most likely get dirty very quickly.
Case-Mate Glam case, $40
We put this case on the list because at least from our own experience, it seems that women are more likely to pick the white iPhone than men. Not all women like glitter, we know, but if you’ve been looking for something with a little glamour, this case is for you. We’ve seen this case in person and despite the glitter, it looks more sophisticated socialite than bratty teen. The glitter layer is protected by a hard clear layer on top, meaning that glitter won’t end up everywhere.
Griffin Reveal in black, $25
This case is great for users who want solid protection for their phone but also want to show it off, particularly the back of the phone and that shiny silver Apple logo. The back of the case is made of clear polycarbonate and the side part is a cushy rubber that helps protect and also gives the case a nice grip. If we could promote the white case, we’d call it the best overall, but unfortunately our testing left the white rubber sullied after only a few days. If you don’t mind the black bumper, it’s a great bet for protection and style.
Uncommon Deflector case, $35
The white of the phone really makes colors pop, so if you’re up for it, go for something bold and bright. We like this mosaic pattern in blue tones; it’s bold but still stylish. This one has a classic snap case design, so it has an ultra-slim profile and is lighter on protection than some. If you like bold patterns, try department stores for designer takes on cases.
