Grape Networks, Inc., allows wine makers to watch their vineyards all from the comfort of their preferred browser.
Napa Valley’s Beringer Vinyards announced that they’re using the new Wireless Sensor Network from Grape Networks in what they believe is the first commercial network in a production vineyard. The grapes are monitored via battery powered nodes to improve yield and quality of crops.
Temperature, light information, moisture, and other simple measurements are broadcast via radio networking and controlled on the Internet. The vintner may monitor his fields from his home, on vacation, or anywhere with Internet access.
Future plans include being able to adjust water or fertilization on a node by node basis, and the use of robotic drones to check up on trouble spots.
