Young Users Help Fuel iTunes Traffic

Nielsen/NetRating says traffic to Apple's iTunes Music Store was up 241 percent in 2005, driven in part by popularity among teenagers.

A new report from Nielsen/Netratings (PDF) found that traffic to Apple’s iTunes Music Store increased by 241 percent in 2004, and iTunes reaches an estimated 14 percent of active Internet users.

“The rapid growth of iTunes is an important phenomenon in theonline media marketplace,” said Jon Gibs, Nielsen/NetRatings’sdirector of media analytics. “Consumers have clearly indicatedthat they are eager to control their own music libraries, onesong at a time.”

According to Nielsen/NetRatings, iTunes garnered 20.7 unique visitors during December 2005
