yeah a crazy price indeed, however like Apple products resale is great, I owned a Bose wave (same as this but the old version without soundlink) for 3 years, I paid £500 new from bose, I got £300 on ebay for it recently when I sold it – not bad, they do sound pretty good for the size, it's the nicest alarm clock made and it's something you see..or hear every morning when you wake up for work, treat yourself.

It would appear that the naysayers to Bose are techies that have some sort of a "I know better than Bose" attitude. The truth is the unit is solid, awesome and pricey. good quality costs – it's that simple. Logitech might sound like Bose butyiu won't hear people say that Bose sounds like logitech! You will not be dissapointed in any way with the wavelink.

this is the classic Bose system. My brother bought one in college and that was the first time I heard it, and yes, it does pack a lot of power in a small package, with extremely crisp sound. even though it's got an "insane" price tag, i think you get what you pay for. nobody ever said a BMW matched a Yugo.

My sister has this system and I heard it when I visited her, it was great, the sound was clear and it could be heard all over her house. I was very impressed with it. I purchased the $600.00 system for myself for Christmas and it is GREAT, I love the sound the clearness of it and the stations do not fade in and out. I put my system in my kitchen in a corner and it delivers a clear sound throughout my house.

If you have the $600 and want a self-contained unit, I say go for it. It is a nice system. However, Ian listed a few very good solutions. Philips and VTech also make them as well. Out of this crop, Sonos has a lot of really nice offerings. I am also partial to Logitech's whole Squeezebox line. Good luck!

The best solution would be something like the Logitech Squeezebox Duet which lets you stream music to any sound system.Essentially, all this Bose system has is an external WiFi radio plugged into a regular Bose Wave player. Nothing fancy. Why not add WiFi to your own/existing system and control it with your iPhone like I did?

Potential purchasers of this product need more info than "You should be able to find plenty of competitors offering similar solutions at a fraction of the cost." The Wave attracts purchasers that have more money than time or "inside knowledge". Few competitors offer a good sound system in the compact size of this product, which negates the value of "networking centered" solutions that either don't come with a specific speaker/amp or use so-so speaker/amps. I think the number of real competitive solutions doesn't merit the adjective "plenty". What exactly is a "similar solution"?

My sister has their iPod music dock. It's okay. I'd rather have a regular $100 cd player with a couple of speakers. I don't like having to have all my things on a computer. They need one that can do vinyl. That would be nice.
