Not a very good product. Required 3 calls to install, all because of requirements omitted from the install guide. Once up and conncected, it wouldn’t play any downloaded music in WMA format. The user interface is very very poor. No way to select multiple albums unless you put them into genres or wanted to play all the albums from an artist. Slow and frustrating performance. Spend your money elsewhere.

A very good idea but very poor execution from Linksys. One would hope that there could be some sort of firmware/software update that would sort out some of the problems but nothing yet.

The product is very difficult to get running properly on your network. It has variouse errors with the software and Windows XP. They need to fix this product to run properly under XP or anyother software.

Running XP SP2? Then do not BUY this product. If you bought it try and take it back. Do not try to install, it will not work. Better buy the CDs or direct connect your computer to your sound system. D-Link has a similar product it works fine. Called LINKSYS multiple times – rather talk to my mother in law. Linksys has no clue. I could hear the tech turning pages looking for the “printed” response to my questions. Linksys has no intention to fix the XP SP2 problems and blames Microsoft for their problems.

No trouble setting this one up. Interface is a little basic, but now that the source code has been released, better software will come. See http://www.turtlehead.co.uk/section/wma11b/ for software that interfaces with iTunes. Some trouble with the device connecting sometimes, nothing a quick reboot doesn’t fix.

For the money this product does what is says on the tin – Plays mp3′s and wma files fine and WORKS with SP2 no problem (on my machine anyway).

The interface is basic and can be a bit slow. I got what I wanted and device capable of streaming picture and audio files for a cheap price. Bear in mind this is one of the cheapest media adaptors out there.

Worked the first time before WinXP XP2. Instantly becomes a piece of junk after XP’s SP2 and DotNet 1.1 upgrade.

The remote is a POS? Oh c’mon… That’s not fair! The whole thing is a POS! Even the technicians at the customer/product support are a POS!

Until now, everybody that owns a WMA11B and updated with XP’s SP2 (which is a CRITICAL stability and security requirement) finds the WMA11B completely useless. The product is advertised to work with Win2K and XP but never does with XP SP2. Is XP SP2 not called XP wherein product support for XP does NOT mean product support for XP with SP2? When did XP with SP2 became NON-XP? What logic applies?

Linksys advertises the product as compatible with WinXP. It does not mention that the product does not work on WinXP with SP2 and DotNet v1.1 upgrades. LinkSys advertising with BS?

Why is LinkSys marketing a product with misleading, incomplete, if not false advertisement, which claims to support XP but not XP XP2? How does LinkSys assume that XP product owners do not have XP SP2 in place? Which legitimate product owners of XP are not concerned with system stability and security that they do not bother installing XP’s SP2?

There is really nothing to review about the WMA11B because it simply does not work! It is a useless peice of junk. What else can I say? Oh, the WMA11B works well as a paper weight – keeps some of the paper documents on your table stay even with some stronger winds…

DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU NEED SOME SERIOUS AND EXPENSIVE PAPER WEIGHT WITH AN ANTENNA AND A REMOTE CONTROL.

I have always liked linksys products and support. This product changed all that. When the product didn’t work, I was on the phone for over 3 hours with tech support. They blamed XP-SP2, .net1.1 my firewall, my virus protection. I backed it all out, except SP2…still doesn’t work. I was told they would not buy back my unit. If the product did work, it has many drawbacks. You have to use the TV to listen to music. no interface with music programs on the PC to create playlists etc. I am very sorry I bought this product

Can’t complain…Payed 30 bucks for this unit and it’s worth it for what it does. I bought it knowing it did not have the bangs and whisles like the other higher priced units. I did my homework before I bought it so I got what I expected. The setup was a bit tricky. Running XPSP2 w/firewall and wireless router – works FINE. Sound quality is good. Basic display on tv – which I wish it did have an onboard display… buy hey 30 bucks!
Once you let it catalog your audio/picture folders (which takes a while depending on size) it seems to boot quick. If you can find it for $30 or less it’s worth the cash.. however do your homework and know what this little jewl does so you are not expecting more than it can offer. Be fair about it.

I bought the Linksys wma11b Media Adapter from CompUSA, took it home and set it up. The set went flawlessly but when I tried to use the unit, it would not communicate with my system. I set it up on my Ethernet, disabled the XP Firewall and Anti-Virus – no luck. I didn’t get around to trying the wireless. I spent about 3 hours on the phone with Linksys Tech Support and they didn’t have any luck helping me out. All I had on the TV screen was “Waiting For Host”. Tech Support said it takes some time to connect depending on how many mp3 files I had. I left it for about three hours and I only had about 50 files in it. Anyway, I took it back to CompUSA and they replaced it. Brought it home and set it up. Guess what! No Video. Back it went and I got my money refunded. It looks like a nice handy unit, If it would work.

The software that comes with it is a piece of crap. I got it not working for 6 months. Chat with linksys support for an hour with no answer. I tried everything… always “waiting for host” message. Until I reinstalled XP home SP2, with all updates but without the .NET framework 2.0. Now it’s working well.

It does what it is suppose to do. Just make sure don’t install .NET 1.1 or 2. Only works with .NET version 1 which comes with the app software if you downlaod from the WEB. Only thing I misss is VGA quality video output for picture as LCD’s are cheap and I can set with good quality picture.

Well, it’s the only one i’ve seen that does video as well. It’s about three years old now (this is 2006) and linksys doesn’t have a new one. Word of warning, it requires certain ports opened, and the windows firewall in SP2 blocks it from working. I’m trying to find a list of ports so I can turn my firewall back on.
