I had this product for just under the 30 day return period. During that time I suffered through connection issues concerning wifi routers, and firewall issues. as a systems admin, I can tell you that most people couldn’t get this thing to work at all. I found that my connection had intermittent issues so it wasn’t worth keeping. The remote is flimsy, and playlist function doesn’t work like they said. The item requires some serious program modifications

I found this product very easy to set up. It strikes a great balance between what it can realistically do (given the constraints of hardware of this form factor) and what it can “delegate” to a PC-based server. I find Windows Media Connect and the two compliment each other tremendously well. My wireless networking connectivity worked first time and has been reliable. The fact that – for my $9.95 / month Napster fee – I have the ability to download from an extremely large range of albums means my music collection in my living room has effectively expanded by 1 million tracks! A good deal, IMHO!!! All told I I really like this product and love the fact that Roku are making ongoing and meaningful software updates.

After eight months of frustration with a Netgear 101 I just plegged this in and it worked. Works very well with Windows Media Conecct as the server only thing I feel it lacks is a headphone socket with a volume control

I had more trouble getting it to talk to my Airport Express network than your reviewer, but I definitely fall into the “novice user” category. The direction booklet doesn’t say anything about MAC (machine address code or Media Access code depending on who I ask) filtering and it was a bugger to eventually figure out that was what was preventing it from connecting. Once I did, it work just like it should have from the very start. I have the feeling that if this had been an Apple product, it would have worked as easily as your reviewer’s stated. Nonetheless, I like it alot, though I wish it natively support FLAC formatted songs. I also haven’t figured out how to simply “STOP” it from playing w/out selecting a new song or resorting to pause. (Mayhaps they have fixed this in the software updates… I haven’t gotten that done on mine yet.) The buttons on the remote feel a bit cheesy, causing me to wonder how durable it will be and I wish the display could be set to simply blank when in play. All said though, its what I wanted, it seems to work like a champ, it is great looking (God knows I don’t need another ‘black box’ in my house) and priced reasonably. If only it were made in USA… but now I’m REALLY dreaming..

Great sound, great look, fast, easy navigation. The only issues I’ve had with it have all been centered around getting the network connection with Windows Media Server (WMS). While it was working fine with WMS I eventually moved to FireFly (Roku’s OpenSource Media Server) and WOW, what a difference. It is easier to setup, with less problems, and on top of that it gets the information for my 11,000+ songs in about two seconds where it took WMS 30 seconds to do the same thing. We love our Roku!

I have two of these devices and am getting a third – I like them that much. I purchased a NAS that had Twonky on it, and an old SMC EZ-Stream that I had suddenly became useful again, but I did not like the tiny display. The Soundbridge has the display that I can use, I can program my Harmony remote to control it, and the latest versions of the firmware better handle streaming audio. This is a great device.
