I’v had a PopCorn A-100 for about 9 months and I was never happy with it. The WD has less bells and whistles but does exactly what it is supposed to do, stream media from an external hard drive to a tv and it does it absolutely flawlessly!

    Pros:

    Very inexpensive

    Easy to use and set-up

    Small size

Good for non-techies or newbies to media streaming

    Cons:

User interface is a bit slow

Banding in video (poor interpolation algorithm?) Did not experience this on my Windows-based Media Players. Important for non 1080 content

Wasn’t very good with video thumbnails

Scanning to create media library takes time

Few options in customizing settings and UI

    Remote a bit dinky

Lacks any wired or wireless connectivity (obviously not an issue at this price point)

Sorry guys this thing isn’t worth $25.

    Bad points.

    - Extremely slow menu and remote control.

    - Can’t handle external Hard drives like 500 Gb because it keeps scanning the disk (WD my book) for about 2 hours.

    - After disconnecting it from power supply it loses all settings.

    - TV composite signal is very bad.

    - I tried display port to HDMI for my monitor, I don’t get a signal (not supported) so I have to connect it to a composite to change the settings to HDMI, but as said after cutting power it loses settings.

    - Too expensive for worthless thing.

    - Limited functionalities.

    No good points found

I have a Panasonic HDC-SD9 HI Def Movie camera. Have been searching for a way to play these captured files on my computer. No way, with all the Nero, Ulead software. This little box plays the MTS files, perfectly! No converting and loosing quality. In fact, this box does more than my high priced computer, and software. WHAT A BUY! No need for DVD’s anymore, backups go to the hard drive for safe keeping. File the DVD’s away. This gets my highest rating!
