This is why we can’t have good things.
A 53-year-old woman in Fredericksburg, VA was just minding her own business when she spotted an unclaimed iPhone near a 7-Eleven convenience store on Lafayette Boulevard, reports NBC Washington. As any good samaritan would attempt (seriously, there aren’t enough people who will do what she did), she tried to contact the phone’s rightful owners to return the lost device. At the meet up point near where the iPhone was originally found, the woman gave the item back to the couple who claimed to own the phone and was offered a cash reward. After the transaction was completed, however, the male owner attacked the woman from behind before stealing the money back and fleeing the area.
“The victim was walking away when the male grabbed her from behind and threw her to the ground,” NBC Washington reports. “He took the money back and kicked her while she was still on the ground… The male and female iPhone owners left the area in a gold Honda Accord.”
While the incident is still under police investigation, what everyone wants to know is why the owners would do such a thing? Did the woman steal any intellectual property stored inside the phone or tampered with it in any way? Unless we’re missing half of the story, it also did not seem like the woman returning the phone sought monetary reward. The cash offered was reportedly “small,” so assaulting a 53-year-old woman to get it back seemed highly unreasonable especially after she just gave back what could have earned her more than what she received as “reward.” The possibility of the situation being staged as a scam also seems unlikely, since the owners would have stolen back their own money each time a meeting is arranged with new strangers.
We previously reported that less than half of lost phones ever make it back to their owners, and now it seems that not only do people purposely steal them, returning the phone also pose a dangerous situation. You just can’t win in this sick, sad world.
In the meantime, don’t let this discourage you from being a do-gooder. If you ever come across a lost item that you want to return, arrange a meeting in a public and brightly lit location. You can also bring along a friend in case anything goes wrong. Accept cash reward at your own discretion — you would rather be safe than a couple bucks richer for doing something right.
Why not simply drop the article at the police station or mail the darn thing. You can’t provide me w/ a mailing address, I guess you don’t want your phone back.
Seems like a RACIST case against WHITE Woman. The lady owner was happy to get her phone back. Her Black ass BF didnt like her giving $ to a White Woman. Assaulted her and Stole her money! SO its a HATE CRIME at this time..
Not only should you NOT be surprised-but actually expect this type of behavior. We live in a Christian Hating , Tolerant Society of NO Moral Convictional Value. Then we wonder HOW and WHy stuff like this happens?!
It was a nigger couple- are we shocked?
Typical applephiles, why are we surprised.
Probably feel entitled to doing it…
As as resident of Fredericksburg, the area in question, not one I would be in, let alone set up a meeting with complete strangers. I think there is probably more to the story than is being reported. Lets just take this as a lesson, when finding lost property in a nasty neighborhood, walk away or you run the risk of ending up injured.
I once found a atm card stuck in a cash machine at a gas station minimart- with the cash ($600) sitting in the tray (it was the 90′s and they had trays back then and allowed more than $300 withdrawals). The guys name sounded fake : last name Sixx. It was weird. Anyway, I needed money bad but when i went back to the car i thought: maybe this guy’s whole paycheck is the problem. I felt like a heel – i work hard for my money. So i looked up the easy to look up name and called the guy. Asked him if he was missing anything: he said, YES, my atm. So i setup a meeting place (public and safe), and gave him the cash and atm. He was epileptic (he told me) and looked really pale and sickly, smelled like vomit. Maybe drugs – don’t know. He cried as I gave him his money back.
But if I found a phone, i would drop it off at a central location (such as a lost and found and then let the person know where it was at). Else, if it was too much trouble or the person was a D!CK, I’d keep it. No one has died without a phone. I’m not certainly gonna die trying to return it either.
smh
I “lost’ a phone once and the azzhole that had it wanted to lick my sweaty nut sack to give it back to me. I called the cops and they set up a sting to get the guy. They arranged a meet to get the phone and then promptly arrested JAMESBIRCHFIELD. I found out later he had seen the phone while looking through his peter gazer hole in the restroom. He snatched it when i reached for the toilet paper.
Sounds like you enjoy having those thoughts beanboy.I bet your another illegal piece of chit aint you
I “lost” a phone once and the azzhole that had it wanted a hundred bucks to give it back to me. I called the cops and they said that they would set up a sting to get the guy and it worked! They arranged a meet to get the phone and then promptly arrested the Hispanic jerkoff for fraud, theft over $100.00 and extortion. I later found out that he admitted seeing the phone on my table in a restaurant and palmed it when he walked by and I was distracted. He was also an illegal that was supposed to be deported 5 years ago!
James you did exactly the right thing. More people should just use common sense.
Your story does not ring true. Are you sure you didn’t make it up so you could express your views on illegals?
Your wording makes it sound like a fabrication. Cops setting up a sting over a cell phone? LOL!
Roberta I suspected you were correct, so, I just asked a friend of mine (who is a police detective) how likely it would be for the PD to set up a sting for a missing cell phone. His response: “HAHAHAHA! Was this in Mayberry?”. He told me police departments don’t have those kinds of resources.
My uncle is a detective and he said extortion, is extortion and will be treated as so, but it’s a process to set these things up, and tax payers money pay for the man hours put in.
He said they rarely take on cell phone cases because the owner is advised to file a police report, send a copy to the cell phone carrier(so they won’t be charged) so they can track the location of the phone, and the owner is to send a officer. He says 9 out of 10 times they are caught with it on them, cuz the police have a right to pat you down without your promission, it’s called “Probable cause” or “Reasonable suspicion”.
Well that’s theft. This woman found this phone.. Who’s to say these idiots didn’t want her to bring the phone to them and they offered her a reward to get it faster. We don’t know. But, they offered a reward people have better things to do with they’re time running around trying to return a phone. Time is money. I would of just left the phone where it was. We do know she was assaulted and no one cares about what happened in the middle. This is someone’s mom. And if it were mines some street justice would take place. I’d have that handled myself. No excuse for assaulting this woman and she’s older…You got the last laugh James in your case LOL..
