Leak: Huawei Edge, with its bare aluminum body, is both awesome and suspicious

Huawei Edge LeakSome rumors are just too good to ignore, and if the phone featured in this particular leak didn’t look so good, we’d almost certainly have passed it by. Why? We’ve absolutely nothing to go on, except the word of the French site which published the picture, that the device pictured is made by Huawei, or anything other than a rarely seen manufacturing component.

With this in mind, gaze on what’s being called the Huawei Edge, an apparently 6.3mm thick device with what looks like a bare aluminum chassis. If you’re into cars, then the thought of bare aluminum should see you dreamily picture unpainted Lotus 7, AC Cobra or Jaguar XJ models, and while the Edge isn’t quite as shiny as it could be, the cool look remains.

Huawei Edge Leak RearThe design is reminiscent of the Nokia Lumia 920 – and therefore could give us a hint of what the rumored, aluminum future of the range may look like – but it’s unfinished look, particularly around the camera cutout, makes us wonder whether this is anything more than a concept.

According to the leak, the Edge will sit close to the top of Huawei’s range, as it’s supposed to feature a 4.9-inch, 1080p screen, a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. If the rumor comes true, we’re supposed to see Huawei introduce the Edge before the end of the year.

Huawei has never strayed far from its established method of producing average-looking, but often well-specced and good value smartphones. A phone with a polished, bare aluminum chassis would be a huge departure from this, and the increase in quality of materials would surely have an impact on the price. We’re not sure the Huawei name has the required level of cache to persuade buyers to purchase a premium model for premium money, no matter how good it looks.

At this stage though, it’s a rhetorical question, as the Edge couldn’t be more unofficial. We’re also not convinced it ever will be.

The Apple iPhone SE (2022) and Apple iPhone SE (2020) together.

The original iPhone SE came out in 2016, and then Apple revamped it in 2020 and 2022 by giving it some more modern hardware. The iPhone SE tends to get updated every two or so years rather than annually like the traditional iPhone. This means  that we should see a new iPhone SE 4 this year, but it’s not so cut-and-dried with this particular model.
