Amazon listing accidentally reveals new Kindle ‘Voyage,’ could launch on November 4

We’re fast approaching the end of 2014, which means we’re due for a Kindle Paperwhite refresh. Amazon might have accidentally slipped a little bit of information on the refresh, as spotted by some eager searchers.

These searchers spotted a listing for the Kindle “Voyage” on Amazon’s German and Japanese stores, with the name popping up again on the Spanish “Register your Kindle Paperwhite” page. While the listings didn’t reveal a smorgasbord of information on the Voyage, they do reveal that it will come in WiFi and 3G flavors, with both versions packing a 300ppi display on the 6-inch device.

In addition, the 112mm x 116mm dimensions of the Voyage suggest the Kindle will be smaller than the current Paperwhite, while the 8mm depth earn the Voyage the title of “thinnest Kindle up to now.” Finally, a November 4 launch date was given for the Kindle Voyage.

While a Paperwhite refresh will happen, we’ll have to wait and see whether that refresh is called the Voyage.

Amazon announced its new Kindle Paperwhite lineup recently following months of rumors. At first, I was ecstatic to see new Paperwhite models. As an avid follower of all e-book readers, I own most of the Kindle lineup, a handful of Kobo and Nook devices, and even an Onyx Boox Nova 3, so I didn't think twice about intending to buy the new Paperwhite.

After all, it's been three years since a Paperwhite model hit the market (the Oasis was released in 2019). It's long overdue for features like the warmer screen temperature, USB-C charging, wireless charging, a bigger screen, and longer-lasting battery life. Amazon's Kindle devices may hold the largest e-reader share in the U.S. and U.K. markets but competitors like the Barnes & Noble Glowlight 3 and the Kobo Forma both boast a warmer reading light, bigger size options, and were the first to roll out with features like waterproofing so it's nice to see Amazon catch up.

Amazon today launched an update to its Kindle Paperwhite e-book readers, adding larger screens, better battery life, and wireless charging at prices starting at $140. The company launched three models, including the Kindle Paperwhite, the Kindle Paperwhite Kids, and the Kindle Paper White Signature Edition, confirming earlier reports.

The base paperwhite is getting a modest update, with the screen being enlarged to 6.8-inches and the bezels slimming down. At 300 pixels per inch, the company says that the new Paperwhite will resemble real paper. It also features an adjustable warm light option for reading late at night.

The new Kindle Paperwhite is set to release shortly, according to a comparison chart recently posted to Good e-Reader. Consumers can expect two new 6.8-inch devices to be part of the fall 2021 release: The Kindle Paperwhite 5 and the Kindle Paperwhite 5 Signature Edition.

Retailing at around $120, the new Paperwhite 5 will include 8GB of storage for both digital and audiobooks. The screen resolution will remain the same at 300 pixels per inch and the new model will feature its slimmest bezel yet. It will also continue to come with the IPX8 waterproof rating, letting you take it into the bathtub without too much worry. Lastly, the front-light LEDs have been upgraded dramatically and will now provide 17 adjustable lighting options, including an amber hue for nighttime reading.
