AmazonWireless To Serve Mobile Needs

AmazonWireless To Serve Mobile Needs

Amazon is starting a new service to let users shop for phones and service plans all in one place.

Amazon is set to open up one-stop shopping for cell phones and service plans when it opens up AmazonWireless.

The site is currently in beta, and already offering plans from AT&T and Verizon Wireless, with over 120 phones, including the BlackBerry.

The site is bound to garner a lot of interest by offering free two-day shipping and even waiving activation fees on some handsets. Customers will be guided through all phases of purchase.

In a statement, Paul Ryder, VP of consumer electronics for Amazon, said:

"We’ve taken our eight years’ experience selling cell phones to create a new site that makes a potentially confusing transaction much easier for customers. The step-by-step purchase process on AmazonWireless makes it easy for customers who already have a plan to upgrade their phones."

However, to date at least, the site isn’t offering plans from all networks, and isn’t carrying all phones, with the most crucial omission perhaps being the iPhone.

  1. Antonio Prohias at 7:57pm 29th September 2010 My Amazon Wireless Review: 1. Ordered a phone (Motorola Droid X) on 9/3/2010 2. Prior to placing the order online I called customer service; I have never ordered a phone through a third party and wanted to be reassured that there weren't any "catches". The customer service agent assured me there weren't and that the phone would ship in 2 weeks. 3. I placed the order online. 4. I received the order reply via email which stated that the phone would be delivered by October 19th - that is a full 3 weeks difference than what the customer service agent told me. 5. I called the following Tuesday 9/6 to see what the hold up was/ I was informed that both the notification on Amazon Wireless website and the customer service rep was wrong. 6. I sent to "complaint" emails both of which were answered with the same "cut and paste" reply explaining that they were sorry. 7. I called Verizon today, 9/29 out of frustration and to my surprise they had the phone in stock. 8. Again, I called Amazon Wireless to see if the delivery date, 10/13 was correct and they confirmed. 9. I canceled my order and purchased the phone directly through Verizon. My Amazon Wireless Review in short: HORRIBLE SERVICE, BUYER BEWARE!
