Apple launched its new AppleCare+ protection plan on the same day the iPhone 4S launched in October. Customers who pre-ordered the new smartphone — a number which rose to more than one million — weren’t given the opportunity to purchase the protection plan at the time of purchase. Apple extended the deadline for AppleCare+ purchases as a result, to November 14. Now a leaked internal memo (via SprintFeed) reveals that the extension has been pushed out even further, to December 15.

In addition, Apple is also offering its customers a grace period after ab iPhone purchase, a 30-day window during which they’ll be allowed to add AppleCare+ protection if it wasn’t purchased alongside the phone. The company’s website confirms this, though in order to take advantage you’ll need to either make a Genius Bar appointment or call up Apple; in either case, proof of purchase is required and your phone will need to be inspected for pre-existing damage. Check out Apple’s website for the updated terms.

There's no shortage of messaging apps out there. The past decade has given us more options than we know what to do with, largely because smartphones demanded something better than plain old SMS.
