While Apple is getting the spotlight today for its new iPhone 5, the spiffy new handset will soon have to stand up against the competition. And one of the potential heavy-hitters out there is the (Google-owned) Motorola RAZR Maxx HD. Sporting an edge-to-edge, 4.7-inch display, and massive battery life, the RAZR Maxx HD is looking to be one of the silent heros in the Android camp. So, how does the shiny new iPhone 5 stack up against one of Motorola’s flagship handsets? Take a look at the spec breakdown below to find out.

What it means: The Razr Maxx HD and iPhone 5 have a lot of features in common, but there are some distinct differences. Aside from running different operating systems, the Razr Maxx has a much larger screen than the new iPhone. It also uses a different type of screen technology called AMOLED, which has benefits and drawbacks. AMOLED screens have really vivid colors and deep blacks, but the iPhone’s LCD screen can display bright whites much more accurately than the Razr. Motorola’s claimed battery life is also much longer than the iPhone and it does have a microSD card slot as well. However, unless you’re on Verizon, the Razr isn’t even an option for you. The iPhone 5 is on three major wireless carriers in the United States: Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T.

I’ve never been an apple iphone fan, but I really like the iphone5. I had the Razr Maxx and the screen broke twice, this time when I got sent my replacement I decided I should just sell it and try out the iphone5. I really like the iphone! It is a lot easier to use and it seems a lot quicker. The camera is suppose to be the same, but the photos look so much better on the iphone. I don’t get it… Maybe they need to do better qc on the razr maxx… I thought the razr maxx was going to be the best phone I ever owned, but it worked about the same as my droid x.
They should have also noted that the Razr Maxx also has a micro HDMI port that is not available on the iPhone 5.

Sold my iPhone 4s for the Razr Maxx HD. Glad I did. The iPhone has a couple of nice features in terms of a really good camera, and while some consider Siri a gimmick, it’s pretty handy. The Maxx HD’s phone isn’t quite as good and the Voice Actions are catching up, but not quite as refined as Siri is (yet) – still, the Maxx’s screen is beautiful and the battery life is phenomenal. NEVER underestimate how nice it is to be able to use your phone as much as you want for a full day plus more, without having to charge it – it’s well worth a couple of disadvantages to be able to do this.
Such a disappointing new I phone! 8 hrs batt life??Really? I have MORE than the 21 hrs specified with my razr maxx, and that’s with running a business 12-20 hrs a day with in excess of 30 phones calls and countless emails and texts….. Nothing about this sounds attractive to me! Just Plain disappointing and inferior!
