AT&T Wants You To Know Samsung’s Jack

AT&T Wants You To Know Samsung

AT&T will be launching the QWERTY-equipped, Windows Mobile-running Samsung Jack on May 19.

Samsung had a bit of a mobile hit on its hands with the original Blackjack and BlackJack II, but had never officially announced a clear follow-on product to bring the line into the current smartphone universe. At least, until today, when Samsung announced the new i637 Jack will launch on AT&T on May 19.

“The Samsung Jack will be another hit crossover smartphone in the tradition of the BlackJack and BlackJack II,” said AT&T Mobility Corporation VP Mike Woodward, in a statement. “The BlackJack series has been the number one selling franchise in Windows Mobile history.”

The Jack runs Windows Mobile 6.1 (and will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5), and offers a QWERTY keypad for users’ email and messaging needs. The Jack comes with 256 MB of RAM, a 3.2 megapixel camera, assisted GPS, integrated 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and stereo Bluetooth wireless networking, and up to 16 GB of removable storage via microSD cards. Of course, the handset ties in with AT&T services like AT&T Navigator for directions, AT&T Mobile Music (which includes access to XM Radio Mobile), and 3G data services via HSDPA/EDGE.

The Jack is set to go on sale May 19 through select AT&T locations for $99.99, after a mail-in rebate and along with a two-year service contract for a voice plan at $39.99 a month or more. (Customers are out of pocket $199.99 until that rebate comes through.)
