Action & Shooter Games
They’re a staple of modern game consoles and PCs around the globe, but action games are fairly plentiful on Android as well. Below are some of our favorite titles.
Shadow Fight 2
Everyone harbors a secret desire to be a ninja, so step out of the shadows and beat your opponents to a pulp in this stylish, beautifully animated, fighting game. Grinding RPG elements detract slightly, but it’s a fun time.
Modern Combat 5: Blackout ($7)
The latest installment in the most popular Android FPS series is the usual macho blend of fast-paced shooter action, original it ain’t, but it’s slick, enjoyable, and boasts a solid multiplayer mode.
NOVA 3 ($7)
If you prefer your FPS action to have a sci-fi flavor, then it’s time to suit up and save the human race. This is graphically stunning; with solid gameplay that features single player and multiplayer action.
Into The Dead
What do you get if you cross an FPS with an endless runner and stir in some zombies? Most of the time you get eaten, but this is a smart, stylish game that makes the most of its simple premise.
There’s no Team Fortress 2 option on Android, but this captures the same spirit and the cartoon art style. It’s six vs. six with five classes to choose from and balanced maps for the madcap action.
Call of Duty: Strike Team ($7)
The controls make the first-person aspect tricky, but you can switch to a third-person view and enjoy something closer to a tactical RTS experience in this polished military shooter.
Tomb Raider I ($1)
Take control of the iconic Lara Croft as she explores every nook and cranny of Atlantis in this mobile remake of one of the most celebrated games of all time, Tomb Raider.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas ($7)
An unmissable open-world adventure packed with crazy characters, fast cars, big guns, and lots of crime. There are very few games with this much depth on the Android platform.
It’s all about the multiplayer here, with six vs six facing off in a chunky sci-fi world of space ships and plasma rifles. A ranking system and polished maps elevate this third-person shooter.
Brothers in Arms 3
This smooth, cover-based 3rd-person shooter features incredible console-like graphics while delivering an exhilarating experience not often seen with smartphone shooters.
