Why we picked the Virgin Mobile Prepaid Plan:
If you want a really cheap plan, there are many options out there with MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators), which are small carriers that use the big carriers’ networks to provide cheaper service to customers.
If you make very few calls and texts and you barely use data, you can get basic service for next to nothing from MVNOs like Tello. However, if you need at least 1GB of data, you’re better off looking elsewhere.
The best deal in MVNO prepaid plans comes from Virgin Mobile. Virgin Mobile offers unlimited talk and text, 5GB of high speed data, no overages, and unlimited music streaming on Sprint’s network for a mere $35 a month. If you want 10GB of data, you’ll pay $45 a month. Calls to Mexico and Canada are part of a $5 add on, which also includes unlimited texting in countries around the world.
If Sprint works where you live, Virgin Mobile is a great deal.
Cricket, Boost Mobile, MetroPCS, and other MVNOs offer decent plans, too so you may want to check them out if you live in an area where Sprint doesn’t work. They all start at $30 a month, but don’t offer as much data or as many perks as Virgin Mobile. Even so, they’re cheaper than the big carriers.
