There are a ton of free apps, but jailbreaking isnt to get free apps, its to get functionality that apple doesnt want you to have in a device you payed for.

Just like on the Apple Store, these developers spend time to offer up great apps. Supporting their work by paying them is a small price. Just think about what you pay for a coffee at Starbucks or what you will pay for lunch later today. The one time asking price for these apps is tiny when you think of it in context with the dozens of things you will buy out of impulse at the store.
