Blaupunkt Gets Colorful with Car Receivers

Blaupunkt said yesterday they’d begun shipments of two new gadget-friendly and display-color matching car audio receivers. The new Key West MP36 and the Bahamas MP46 are priced at $149.99 and $179.99 respectively.

The Key West MP36 and Bahamas MP46, said Blaupunkt, both sport a color display panel with 4096 colors which can be customized to match any car interior and dash lighting. The Bahamas MP46 adds to this a full graphical display as well.

Other features of these two car audio receivers include a CD player with MP3 compatibility; shock protection memory; detachable/flip-down faceplate; an auxiliary input for use with satellite radio or video equipment; four-channel preamp outputs; a variable subwoofer output; TEL/NAVI inputs for use with cell phone and navigation systems; a user-adjustable three-band parametric EQ; adjustable scan tuning; CD changer compatibility; ID3 tag display for MP3 files, and an included credit card-sized RC-12H remote control.

Apple is reportedly working with BMW for the rumored CarKey feature, which has appeared in iOS 14 code after being first spotted in the iOS 13.4 beta.

The code for iOS 13.4 contained references to a CarKey API, according to 9to5Mac. Apple is slowly but surely eliminating the need to take anything with you except your iPhone. The company is trying to replace the wallet with Apple Pay, and now it's trying to take the place of your car keys with the new CarKey feature referenced in the iOS 13.4 beta.

The new feature will essentially allow users to unlock, lock, and start certain NFC-compatible cars. The "keys" themselves can be seen in the Wallet app -- and even shared with other people, directly through the Messages app.
