Cingular, MobiTV Team to Bring MobiRadio

New streaming service available to Cingular subscribers will deliver over 40 channels of commercial free digital music for a monthly fee plus data usage.

Cellular provider Cingular Wireless and content provider MobiTV today expanded their live streaming content relationship as they unveiled MobiRadio to Cingular’s subscribers. The new service, which will cost $6.99 per month plus kilobyte usage, is currently available on the Nokia 6620, Sony Ericsson S710 and Z500a.

MobiRadio will offer Cingular subscribers over 40 channels of commercial free digital music, Cingular said. In addition to the channels, which are updated regularly to provide fresh music to listeners, album art, song and artist information are displayed during playback. Future features will include the ability to instantly purchase related ringtones and other associated content as the music plays directly from the customer’s Cingular phone.

MobiTV also offers Cingular subscribers a streaming television service. Cingular noted that in addition to these two content offerings, other milestones in their “convergence of wireless and music” included a program which debuts popular artists’ music as ringtones before they can be heard elsewhere and the launch of the iTunes phone.
