Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 kicks off a new chapter for the long-running series’ turn-based strategy play in a July 2 release that’s coming to iOS device, 2K Games confirms. The publisher’s brief announcement confirms the release date — an Android version is coming “soon” as well — and little else.
New-to-the-series leaders Winston Churchill and John F. Kennedy join a lineup of no less than 16 others, and newly released screens reveal that the game switches to a square-based grid, away from the series-standard hex grid.
Civilization Revolution was released in 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as a simplified, console-based take on the series. An iOS version followed in 2009. Revolution proved that the series could work without a mouse/keyboard, though the strategic depth was lacking compared to other games in the series. The technological leaps that we’ve seen since that 2009 release should hopefully result in a much more robust Civilization experience.
