Sony's new Xperia Ion gets a huge 720p screen, 12-megapixel rear camera and support for AT&T's quick LTE network.
After years of gawking over sleek Sony Ericsson handsets we never saw much of in the U.S., it’s refreshing to see a hot new model with a carrier already lined up: the Sony Xperia Ion for AT&T. The Xperia Ion is Sony’s first LTE device, but brings to the table a lot more than a quick 4G connection. For starters, there’s a 4.6-inch screen with full 720p resolution – 1280 x 720 pixels – that looks positively stunning in person. A rear 12-megapixel camera also stands out as among the best in its class. The only thing dragging this little beauty down, for the moment, would be the decrepit Android 2.3 OS it’s running, but Sony says it will work with Android 4.0 down the line. it even has PlayStation certification for the growing list of PlayStation titles coming to Android. Look for it in the second quarter of 2012 on AT&T.
