Until now the Dell Venue device name has only been associated with Windows Phone 7 in the United States as the Dell Venue Pro, but now the computer maker has officially launched the Dell Venue——and it’s an Android-running smartphone with a 4.1-inch display with Gorilla Glass, a 1 GHz processor, and an eight megapixel camera. But there are a few important things the Dell Venue doesn’t have yet: a release date, a price, or a carrier partner.
The Dell Venue will run Android 2.2 and feature a 1 GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon 8250 processor, along with a 4.1-inch AMOLED display with an 800 by 480-pixel native resolution protected by Gorilla Glass. The Venue also sports an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and high-definition video recording capability, and although the phone only has 1 GB of onboard storage there is a microSD slot for up to 32 GB of removable storage. The phone will run Android 2.2 “Froyo” with Dell’s own Stage interface layers on top to provide tools for organizing music, movies, photos, and other media. The Venue also features 802.11 WiFI, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and assisted GPS—and there’s contradicting information about whether the Venue will feature an FM receiver.
Dell hasn’t yet revealed when it plans to make the Venue available for sale, or what its pricing will be. Apparently Dell plans to market the Venue unlocked rather than partnering with a carrier—although the specs we’ve seen so far seem to indicate that the unlocked Venue would only be able to access 3G service in the U.S. on AT&T.
