EA’s ‘Orcs & Elves’ Coming to Verizon

Electronic arts will offer the mobile game "Orcs & Elves" to Verizon mobile customers this month.

Electronic Arts announced today (PDF) that it will offer its fantasy role playing game title Orcs & Elves to Verizon mobile customers later this month. Orcs & Elves was developed by id Software and Fountainhead Entertainment. Verizon Get It Now customers will be able to get the game on May 9; it’ll be available nationwide in July 2006. EA previously worked wit id Software and Fountainhead Entertainment to develop the mobile version of the Doom first-person shooter franchise.

Orcs & Elves is a fantasy role-playing game which combines first-person action and turn-based RPG styles, and offers more than five hours of game play. Players can use eleven weapons (including flaming swords and crossbows) as they battle more than thirty enemies, outwit traps, solve puzzles, find treasure, and interact with mysterious characters to save the Dwarven citadel “from the forces of darkness.”

“The formative computer games of my youth were fantasy games, so I amhappy to finally bring one to market,” said John Carmack, founder andtechnical director, id Software. “Orcs & Elves has been explicitly designed to play to the strengths and avoid the weaknesses of the mobile platform, with easy game play, a tight design, and a rewardingpresentation of a world we think players will want to see more of.”
