Firefly Phone Developed For Kids

Firefly Mobile is marketing their new Firefly phone to kids. The phone features only 5 buttons and has extensive parental controls.

The Firefly phone is designed for the smaller hands of kids aged eight to 12 years old. With just five keys instead of a regular dial pad, parents use a PIN to program up to 22 outgoing numbers into the phone, including speed-dial keys for Mom and Dad. The patented phone lights up like a firefly when in use and intermittently when in standby mode. It is about the size of a small pocket calculator and weighs two ounces. The Firefly phone is currently available through select regional wireless operators, and will be offered nationwide at www.fireflymobile.com in May, 2005. In July, 2005 Firefly phones with a Firefly branded, pay-as-you-go/pre-paid calling plan will be available through Target stores nationwide.

Firefly phones help eliminate the hesitation many parents feel about handing their younger children an “adult” mobile phone that lacks the control features that parents need. Firefly phones feature a variety of parental controls, including the ability to pre-program outgoing numbers and optionally only receive calls from an approved list of incoming numbers. Mom, Dad and Phone Book keys allow kids to make one-touch calls, ensuring they are always just one key away from mom and dad. A 911 emergency button with accidental call protection connects the phone directly with emergency assistance.

  1. Aily at 9:09am 6th November 2010 The Just5 mobile phone is a better option for kids for me. My 9 year old daughter has this phone and so far, she is having no problems with it. I love the idea that this phone is simple and basic but it offers PERS features that are always handy whenever in an emergency. The battery is long lasting and the LCD display is bright, which make this phone a great treat for kids. Learn more about this phone at www.just5.com.

  19. RAZR at 10:09pm 22nd August 2005 The phone comes with a clip so kids can attach it to their backback. If the phone is stolen, whomever has it can only call the numbers that are programmed into it.

  22. fungku at 10:27am 18th August 2005 According to the story, you can have up to 22 programmed numbers in the address book, plus dial 911. It doesnt have a num pad, so you can call any number you want, which is what makes these cell phones great for kids.

  24. Desi at 6:25am 12th August 2005 They are on to something good here. If they could add GPS tracking, this product would be in short demand!!!!!!
  25. Lisa at 11:41pm 12th May 2005 I REALLY like this! The only thing I would worry about is it being stolen, but it would make a great Christmas present for kids who really want cell phones. It seems to have a family safety purpose.
