HP Supports Democratic National Convention

HP today announced that it is providing mobile solutions to delegates, staff and attendees at the 2004 Democratic National Convention here, which runs from July 26 - 29.

HP mobile technology allows participants to cut through the noise and confusion on the convention floor and to interact with each other in new ways.

HP is providing HP iPAQ Pocket PCs, Tablet PCs and notebook PCs featuring integrated wireless connectivity to delegates and staff, as well as the network infrastructure and professional services to create a comprehensive mobile experience.

“Beyond providing a new level of interaction for our staff and for our delegates, HP’s mobility solutions have also been remarkably easy to integrate and deploy in a fast-paced, changing environment,” said Chris Gruin, director of technology, Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC). “HP’s ability to quickly adapt and integrate their technology into complete solutions that work together has allowed us to focus on creating a successful convention.”

Each state delegation is using HP iPAQs and Tablet PCs to interact with each other and the convention staff. In addition, HP is assisting in the DNCC’s effort to make the 2004 convention the most inclusive ever by enabling bloggers, credentialed for the first time by the convention, to record and instantly publish their impressions in their blogs for immediate access worldwide over the internet.

“HP views support of the American political experience to be part of our civic responsibility and we are pleased to use our expertise providing easy-to-use, manageable and secure mobility solutions to help enable this important process,” said Gary Fazzino, vice president for government and public affairs, Corporate Affairs, HP. “The delegates are going to have the ability to access their most important convention information and participate with each other like never before.”

“Both HP and the convention staff are excited about the dynamic interaction that will take place on the floor in Boston,” said Juergen Rottler, senior vice president, Public Sector, Health and Education, HP. “This unique mobile service is a great example of how we customize our range of innovative mobile devices, services and solutions to serve the needs of customers within the public sector, all sizes of enterprises and consumers worldwide.”

In addition to HP iPAQs, Tablet PCs and network infrastructure, HP is contributing notebook and desktop PCs and imaging and printing devices for use by convention staff. HP Services is providing on-site assistance.

Following the convention, the HP mobile technology will be donated to Boston-area schools, community centers and local governments. Recipients will be announced following the convention.
