IAC Rolls Out Mobile GPS Application

Parent company of popular Web brands such as Evite and Citysearch debuts a downloadable mobile application for cell phones which makes its Web offerings more portable.

IAC, the parent company of search portal Ask.com, has announced a mobile application which ties together local content, social networking and GPS. This application, called Ask Mobile GPS, is available for download to select supported mobile devices as a free trial version.

Ask Mobile GPS ties together Web services from three popular IAC Web sites – Ask.com, Citysearch and Evite.com. It uses the built-in GPS function of supported phones to help users find nearby business listings and make use of turn-by-turn directions. With Ask Mobile GPS users will able to browse Citysearch entries and reviews, view and interact with Evite invitations and use the GPS in their phones to broadcast their location to other users.

IAC eventually plans to tie in some other Web sites from their portfolio, including Match.com, Ticketmaster and RealEstate.com, into the mobile application.

"Ask Mobile GPS is just the start of our commitment to creating outstanding mobile offerings," said Doug Lebda, President and Chief Operating Officer of IAC, in a statement. "IAC has the brands consumers love and use for life’s every day activities, and our resources and scale give us the ability to integrate the best of our products and services into a holistic mobile offering for consumers."
