IOS 4.2 is finally here, and with it some obligatory glitches. One that Apple Forums seems to be seeing a lot of is lost media. Users are complaining that post OS upgrade, their Apple devices are missing podcasts, videos, audio books, and most significantly music. The amount of space the invisible files are taking up still appears and re-syncing won’t do any good.
It looks like the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch are being affected by this technical error (any iPad users out there experiencing this?). Before you start from scratch and re-sync every single thing to your device, try this quick fix that’s circulating the web:
- Connect the iPhone (or iPod Touch if it be the case). Allow iTunes to open, and then select the name and/or icon of the device so that it displays the media loaded on it.
- Select “music,” and play a song from the phone’s library.
- Sync your iPhone. This should be quick: You aren’t actually loading any new content, you’re just trying to get the device to recognize the files that were already there before.
- After clicking eject, disconnect the iPhone from your computer. Now check the phone’s iPod library. Everything should be there.
Downloaded ios4 today then just as the download had finished my iPad went dead.
I could' t switch it off or on and it took me hours to sift through the online support.
When I finally got it going and backed up. I found I had lost about 90% of my apps!
we'll see you eat your words. : )
Just buy an Android phone and all your iPhone woes will vanish. Apple is not going to last for very long.

Nah, Apple is quit good at screwing up, they don't need MS to help.
Apple all ways is good !
Apple is not long for this world. Believe me. Every day it's another nail in their digital coffin.
If you are missing your content in the iPod app, you might be able to go into Settings -> General -> About and see that all of the content is still showing. The resolution that fixed this on my iPad and iPhone 4 was to connect the device to my MacBook Pro, open iTunes, right-click the name of my device and choose Backup (NOTE: I do not sync my devices with my MacBook Pro). Once the backup finished, the device seems to re-assess what content is on the device. Hope this helps.
Sounds like they may have hired some of Microsofts old programmers.
Right at this moment, my Ipad has been crushed early this morning and I am about to leave office to visit the Apple store. What happened was I last used Ipad listening to Pandora Radio at home; later on when I sat down at Macdonald ready to surf Ipad with my breakfast, I couldn't turn it on at all. Affter reading this article, I think I will go home hooking it up with my computer first to see if I can somehow fix the crush.
