The Samsung Galaxy Note was one of the most talked about phones at the Consumer Electronics Show a few weeks ago, and it looks like AT&T isn’t wasting its time bringing the device to market. The Note will hit shelves on Feb. 19 for $300 with a two-year contract.
The new phone is one of the largest Android phones (maybe the largest) to be released with a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED screen (1280×800 pixels). Not shying away from size, Samsung itself has released ads asking whether the device is a tablet or a phone? Big is the angle here. With a pull-out stylus and an iPad-like screen cover, many potential buyers might actually get confused. But with screen sizes steadily increasing in the United States, Samsung is making a rather calculated bet.
Back at CES, I wrote up my impressions of the Galaxy Note, which was a bit too large for my hands–at least, upon first holding. Many readers, some of them users of the UK version of the Note, commented that I was being shortsighted and that the Note is totally usable and not too large. It looks like AT&T customers will soon decide.
There are currently no announced plans to bring the Note to other carriers, so you’ll have to switch to AT&T or import the unlocked version if you hope to use this mammoth device. Those who preorder the phone by Feb. 5 will get it delivered to their door by Feb. 17, says Samsung.
too big for my taste hahha.
CONSIDER IT??? ARE YOU RETARDED???? I’M FREAKING GETTING IT. TRUE STORY. LOL.Like Dennis Lowe siad…. Pay as you go, baby!
I haven’t had the chance to get my hands on this beast, but I think I would love it. I use my phone less and less for actually making calls, and more for texting, web browsing, playing games, watching movies, etc. All of which would be improved with a massive screen. I don’t ever see me using the stylus though.
The big debate would be to get it unlocked vs on locked but with LTE. The unlocked version is HSPA+, but offers free wifi tethering (cause it’s unlocked), but AT&T’s LTE is just so fast!
To big! And it’s a android running last years OS lol. iPhone 4S owner.
Um, no..not too big. The Samsung Galaxy S has the largest screen available right now and is very popular. The specs on this phone are superb. I’ll have mine by the summer.
Yeah, I really think these contract phones are a rip-off. I would pay $300-400 for a quality phone if it were pay as you go. I just don’t use my phone enough to warrant a $120 a month cell bill.
He’ll yes! If I could afford it :(
I demo’ed this device @ CES and was impressed. It really isn’t too large to use as an everyday device. I will still travel with my Android tablet however. Who makes phone calls anymore anyhow? The specs on this device are going to be a bit antiquated by it’s release date however as Tegra 3 quad core phones will be released soon
The specs on this phone are more than adequate for the average user. There will always be a phone with better specs released every 6 to 9 months. The selling point of this phone will be it’s screen size.
i think i will wait for the Verizon model to be released. I am with Tmo now and my coverage sucks. This will give me a really good reason to switch
Who would use a phone this big? I don’t understand…and a stylus? Really?
Who would use…King Kong.
I would
For what? How old are you man!?
I like big phones. I’m always traveling and the little screens are annoying, especially on long flights. I’m 25. Why do you ask, and what does that have to do with anything?
haha just figured you were a big Palm user with a stylus back in the day. I personally couldn’t fit a phone this big in my pocket
This phone will fit in any regular size pocket…unless you wear extra tight skiny jeans.
