Motorola Rolls Out Seven W-Series Phones

Motorola Rolls Out Seven W-Series Phones

Motorola significantly expanded its cell-phone lineup on Thursday with the release of seven new W-series phones aimed at the value segment. The W156, W160, W175, W180, W206, W213, and W377 are intended to bring high-end features to lower price points for first-time and beginning cell users.

At the top of the new W line will be the W377, a clamshell-style phone which includes an integrated FM radio and MP3 ringtones, plus VGA camera, Bluetooth capability and preloaded games. The candy-bar-style W213 will get similar features minus the camera, while stepping down another rung to the W206 will remove the FM radio from the feature set.

The W175 and W180 are meant for business, with extended battery life to keep long conversations going (offering up to 590 minutes of talk time), and Motorola’s CrystalTalk voice optimization. The W180 also gets an FM Radio.

Finally, the W156 and W160 were designed for ease of use, with large black-and-white displays and an interface Motorola claims is intuitive. The W160 will get an FM radio, and both models get the same impressive battery life as the W175 and W180.

Motorola has not yet announced pricing for the new models, but the phones will be released in the fourth quarter of 2007.

The Moto G Power 5G and Moto G 5G phones in a render.

While not as flashy as flagship phone announcements, it's always worth keeping an eye on new phones in the budget range being launched. Motorola was the long-time king of this particular area but was largely unseated by particularly strong efforts from manufacturers like Samsung and OnePlus into the budget market.

So, it might no longer be the sole king, but that doesn't mean it's throwing in the towel. Far from it, in fact. Motorola has just announced two new smartphones in the sub-$300 bracket: the Moto G Power 5G (2024) and the Moto G 5G (2024). Here's everything you need to know.
