NBC, Fox Invest In Mobile TV

MobiTV has teamed up with industry leaders NBC Universal, FOX Interactive Media and Comedy Time to bring their TV programming to Sprint customers.

MobiTV is a Java download available on Sprint PCS Vision(SM) Phones. Using its knowledge of the preferences and viewing patterns of a growing subscriber base, MobiTV partnered with these contentproviders to deliver programming that meets the demands of a TV audience on-the-move.

Dr. Phillip Alvelda, CEO of Idetic, Inc., the developer of MobiTV, said: “MobiTV has opened up a significant new category and distribution channel for television content. Having these major networks add their content to the MobiTV service is testimony to the momentum of MobiTV in the marketplace. With more than a billion mobile phone users worldwide, we believe live mobile TV, and our proprietary technology that makes this possible, represents a significant opportunity for all types of content providers.”

NBC Universal will provide headlines and breaking news from NBC News, America’s most watched news leader. The addition of NBC News programming builds on NBC Universal’s current MobiTV offerings, which include channels MSNBC and CNBC.

“Given today’s evolving media landscape, finding new platforms for NBC Universal content is a top priority,” said Brandon Burgess, NBC Universal’s executive vice president, digital media, international channels and business development. “Making our news content available to mobile phone users has proven to be a good fit with our current offerings on MobiTV, so we are pleased to add NBC News to the list.”

The FOX Sports channel on MobiTV features national news coverage with the FOX Wire, regional coverage with the Regional Sports Report, clips from leading sports entertainment programs such as “The Best Damn Sports Show Period!” and “Beyond the Glory,” plus FOX Sports One, NFL on FOX, MLB on FOX, College Football Saturday and exclusive footage of non-aired events.

FOX Sports Interactive Media general manager and senior vice president, Ross Levinsohn added: “This partnership with MobiTV allows FOX Sports to do more than keep fans up to speed on wins and losses, it gives us the ability to deliver our sports programming 24 hours a day. It’s an `always on’ sports programming channel.”

The Comedy Time channel will feature a wide range of stand-up comedy acts from some of the nation’s top comedians.

David E. Goldman, CEO of Comedy Time, said: “We know that a little humor can go a long way to making traveling time or standing-in-line time more bearable — so we are excited by this partnership with MobiTV. There will be more laughter heard in waiting rooms and airport terminals, as we now can bring performances from well-known comedians and entertainers to MobiTV viewers, wherever they are.”

MobiTV, developed by Idetic, Inc., is currently available on Sprint PCS Vision Phones. For $9.99 per month, Sprint PCS Vision subscribers can enjoy NBC News, FOX Sports and Comedy Time, available now, along with ABC News Now, MSNBC, CNBC, Discovery Channel, College Sports Television, The Learning Channel and many more.
