Wikipedia’s new iOS app will give you the information you’re looking for

Wikipedia finally made a revised version of its iOS app, which aims to give users better recommendations for content that they’re interested in and match users with articles that pertain to their interests.

The new app has also been optimized to take advantage of Apple’s latest operating system iOS 9, offering support for 3D Touch and for Spotlight Search.

The refreshed app is Wikipedia’s latest attempt to take advantage of the mobile revolution. Previously, the company experimented with offline access and ways to edit articles on mobile. It also tried to make its website a lot more social, releasing “shareable fact cards,” which are still supported but are not as prominent.

Personalization has clearly been a big focus for Wikipedia in the development of this app. The app now offers users an “Explore” feed, which offers a number of the most popular articles, as well as a featured article and picture of the day. It will also pull in a few random articles, and articles that are selected based on things you’ve read in the past. Obviously, the feed will get better the more you use the app.

As mentioned, the app also now supports the latest Apple technology, meaning that it includes features accessed through 3D Touch. From the home screen, the user can use 3D Touch to access quick features like open search, see nearby articles, read a random article, or continue reading the last article that you read.

Another cool iOS-specific feature is Handoff. iOS allows users to seamlessly move between the iPhone, iPad, and Mac computer for things like calls, documents, and even some apps. In the case of Wikipedia, users can quickly jump between different devices to read articles.

Of course, only time will tell whether or not these changes have a big impact on the popularity, or lack of popularity, of the Wikipedia app. You can download the app for yourself here.

There’s a big problem with the iPhone’s Photos app
The Apple iPhone 15 Plus's gallery app.

While my primary device these days continues to be my iPhone 15 Pro, I’ve dabbled with plenty of Android phones since I’ve been here at Digital Trends. One of my favorite brands of phone has been the Google Pixel because of its strong suite of photo-editing tools and good camera hardware.

Google first added the Magic Eraser capability with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which is a tool I love using. Then, with the Pixel 8 series, Google added the Magic Editor, which uses generative AI to make edits that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. There are also tools like Photo Unblur, which is great for old photographs and enhancing images that were captured with low-quality sensors.

Why you should buy the iPhone 15 Pro Max instead of the iPhone 15 Pro
Someone holding an iPhone 15 Pro Max outside on a patio, showing the back of the Natural Titanium color.

If you want the best iPhone money can buy in 2024, you have two options: the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. They have the same chipset, similar display technology, nearly identical cameras, etc. It's a really close battle, save for the fact that the iPhone 15 Pro is $200 cheaper.

It might be tempting to save some cash and choose the iPhone 15 Pro, but I recommend you splurge for the larger (and more expensive) iPhone 15 Pro Max. Why? Let me explain.
