Palm Unveils Unlocked Treo 750 and Update

Palm has begun selling unlocked versions of its Treo 750 smartphone...and is offering Windows Mobile 6 updates to existing Treo 750 users.

Palm announced today that it has begun selling unlocked versions of its Treo 750 smartphone via it’s retail locations and its online store. The unlocked Treo 750 comes with Windows Mobile 6, five-band network connectivity, and HSDPA high-speed data capability.

“The Treo 750 smartphone integrates Palm’s ease of use with the new features of Windows Mobile 6 to bring the familiar desktop experience to mobile professionals,” said Palm VP of business and consumer marketing Brent Remai, in a statement. “Palm and Microsoft’s alliance continues to provide office productivity in any away-from-the-desk setting through Direct Push Technology and a robust application portfolio.”

The Treo 650 was previously available in the U.S. via AT&T’s 3G network; the phone is also offered by a selection of other carriers around the world. The Treo 750 offers a QWERTY keypad, 240 by 240 LCD screen, 43 MB of user storage (expandable with miniSD cards), a 1.3 megapixel camera, and Bluetooth 1.2, built on a 300 MHz Samsung processor. Palm also packs a number of software enhancements over standard Windows Mobile 6 devices, including threaded text and MMS messaging, Today Screen enhancements like one-touch dialing and direct Web searches, VCR-like call and voicemail controls, and quick “can’t take your call” text messages from the incoming call screen.

The unlocked version of the Treo 750 is priced at $549.
