Samsung Charges up Air Travelers, Gratis

Samsung's mobile arm has added free charging stations for travelers in LaGuardia and Orlando International airports, allowing them to juice up on the go.

Travelers hoofing it through LaGuardia and Orlando International Airports will find now electrical oases for their gadgets scattered throughout, courtesy of Samsung Mobile. The company announced on Wednesday that it has added dozens of charging stations to both airports, putting them in the same league as JFK, LAX and DFW, where it has already had charging stations for some time.

The towering charging stations each offer four outlets that deliver standard U.S. voltage (120 volts), along with shelves to hold electronics while they charge. Samsung installed 12 of the stations at LaGuardia’s Central Terminal Building at Gates A-D, and 18 at four of Orlando’s satellite terminals, on the second floor.

“The Samsung Mobile Charging Stations are an easy way to reduce some of the stress that can come with traveling for business travelers and vacationers alike,” said Bill Ogle, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Mobile, in a statement. “The charging stations are easy to find and simple to use. We expect them to be as big a hit with travelers passing through these major cities as they have been in JFK, LAX and DFW airports.”

Since the stations are free to use, local utilities in New York (Con Edison) and Orlando (the Orlando Utilities Commission) will foot the bill for whatever electricity they suck up.

  1. Mark at 5:52pm 30th April 2008 Seems convenient, but the only issues I see are that when the item(s) are charging, you have to be standing right there or someone will walk off with your item. that's not too much fun if its going to take an hour or more. If you could lock the item in the unit (for example) then you could leave and come back {or forget about it}.
