If you’re waiting for a “Pebble Blue” Samsung Galaxy S3 in the United Kingdom, don’t bother checking your mail today. According to MobileFun and other UK sites, Samsung has officially delayed the blue version of the Galaxy S3 to improve the color of the casing. As we reported a few hours ago, the Unlocked SIM-free version of the S3 was supposed to go on sale in the UK, Europe, and the Middle East today. If you want a Galaxy S3 this week, you’re going to have to opt for the “Ceramic White” model. Pre-orders and in-store purchases of the white model should not be affected by this delay.
“Samsung’s Galaxy SIII Pebble Blue version comes with a newly invented blue colour and special hyper-glaze material,” writes Samsung. “In order to meet the highest internal quality standards and to provide the best quality Galaxy SIII to customers, a short supply of Pebble Blue version is expected in some regions in the next 2-3 weeks. Samsung is working hard to ensure that customers will get the Pebble Blue coloured devices as soon as possible.”
Though we’re all for a short delay if it improves the phone, Samsung’s excuse doesn’t sound legitimate. From the way the company describes it, a lab invented a new coloring technique over the weekend that was so amazing that Samsung had to reskin all of its already boxed phones and start over. There’s little reason why Samsung couldn’t have announced this delay sooner. If it was planning on meeting its launch date at all, blue S3′s would have had to be finished and shipped days ago. More likely, there was a problem with the design and something had to be fixed. You may remember that it took Apple almost a year to finally launch its white iPhone 4.
We prefer the white Galaxy S3. Is anyone holding out for blue?
Update 6/4/2012: The Galaxy S3 US release pricing and info has come out and it appears that Pebble blue will be a part of the launch.
Had the Blue version on pre-order along with a free Galaxy Tab but of course there are none about. Decided to go with the white version as really the color doesn’t matter much to me. The phone will spend the next two years inside a leather case anyway so I will never see what color it is. Have to say though, the way Samsung have handled this has been a bit of a fiasco. Carphone Warehouse in the UK have been having a nightmare getting the right info to customers. Makes them look bad when really it was not their fault. If what Samsung say is true, would they not have known about this weeks ago? Was there anything wrong with the blue versions they demoed at the launch on the 3rd May? If not then what is all this nonsense about?
