Samsung’s Galaxy Tab headed to AT&T next?

If the rumors are true, AT&T's Tab will be the priciest yet.

We’ve known that it was going to happen at some point, but now we may know exactly when. Engadget, claims to have learned that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab will be sold through AT&T starting on Nov. 21 for $649.99 without a contract. The blog says it learned of the launch through a leaked screen grab intended for AT&T employees.

Samsung’s iPad competitor features a 7-inch touch screen and runs on Google’s Android operating system. There’s already rumors floating around suggesting that Samsung may followup with a larger 10-inch version sometime in the future.

If the rumored price turns out to be legit, the Tab may prove to be a tough sell for AT&T. The company currently is offering Apple’s iPad for $629.99 also contract-free. That means consumers can expect to pay $20 more for Samsung’s tablet which features a significantly smaller display than Apple’s 9.7-inch offering. Tough sell indeed.

As far as data plans go, it looks like AT&T will offer the same options for both the Tab and iPad: 250MB for $14.99 per month or 2GB for $25 per month for domestic usage.

If the intel is correct, AT&T will become the third US carrier of the Galaxy Tab following launches by Verizon and T-Mobile. Both carriers are currently selling a no-contract version of the Tab for $599.99 – 50 bucks cheaper than AT&T’s alleged offering. It’s still unclear just what extra features might be bundled with its Tab to entice consumers to spend more money then they would if they went with other carriers’ tablet computer options. The Galaxy Tab is eventually expected to be available through Sprint as well sometime in the near future.

aious at 3:20pm 11th November 2010 Yet again, AT&T offers a laughable cap with absolutely no reasoning other than wanting to screw customers who use it often and hoping they hit the cap so they can re-start their monthly plan earlier thus penalizing them
time4reality. at 9:55am 11th November 2010 Why is a tablet with a smaller display a tough sell? Are phones with smaller than 4" displays a tough sell? Netbook with smaller displays flew off the shelves in past years. You failed to qualify your comment so it becomes worthless. The facts are clear. Some people don't want to carry around a larger tablet. Why do you think E-Readers are found all over the place? Seems the smaller display devices allow one to actually take it out of the house or office. When was the last time you actually say someone carrying around an iPad? They sit on tables at home.
