Siemens And Wherify Build GPS Locator Phone

The Wherifone G550 Locator Phone, powered by Siemens technology, is expected to be available through Wal-Mart stores and Walmart.com beginning in Q2, 2005.

The Wherifone, the world’s first compact global locator phone that combines dual GSM/GPRS and Enhanced-GPS technology, will be on display at the CTIA Wireless trade show in New Orleans, Louisiana,March 14-16 at Siemens’ booth (#5245) and at Wherify’s booth (#1661).

Weighing only 2.4 ounces and about the size of a business card, the Wherifone marks an innovative application of Siemens GSM/GPRS wireless technology and next-generation GPS locating technology enabled by Wherify. The Wherifone features five programmable functions for one-touch dialing, including 911 emergency services and concierge services. The Wherifone can be located through a secure Internet website, or by contacting the Wherify service center from any phone, giving parents and family members peace of mind about their loved ones’ whereabouts while providing privacy and information security.
