Having dropped, dunked and dinged Casio’s G’zOne Boulder rugged phone to heart’s content when we got our hands on it for review, we’re excited to see that the market for solid phones that will take a beating is still expanding. The niche U.S. manufacturer Sonim hopes to improve upon the success of its original XP1 rugged phone with the XP3, a newer, tougher variant.

The big news on the XP3 can be summed up in two words: fully submersible. While the XP1 was only rated for water resistance, the new one will go swimming in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes without missing a beat.
Of course, it also has all the features of the old model, including a durable rubber-wrapped case, shock protection, dust protection, a scratch-resistant screen, and the ability to operate from temperatures from -20 to 60 degrees Celcius. In other words, most of the conditions that will kill it will also kill you.
And should you manage to destroy the (supposedly) indestructible, Sonim will give you another one within three years, no questions asked.
Unfortunately, Sonim hasn’t yet priced or released the XP3, but it should be debuting in select European countries at the end of November. More information can be found on the company’s Web site.
