Sony Ericsson Debuts New T290a Phone

The T290a, which includes more features than many entry level handsets, is a dual-band 850/1900 GSM mobile phone that will launch in North America during Q1 2005.

“For those who predominately use a mobile phone for voice and text messages to friends and family, the T290a is a feature-rich entry-level handset with the same classic styling and high quality that you can see straight across the Sony Ericsson’s product portfolio,” said Urban Gillström, president, Sony Ericsson North America. “The customers who buy the T290a are looking for simplicity, quality and value for money.”

“The T290a may also appeal to some small businesses that want a cost-effective means of staying connected with the office and customers while on-the-go. The T290a also provides a calendar and easy synchronization.”

“Sony Ericsson has already sold more than 10 million units from this entry-level family of phones, including the popular T226 and T237, and the T290a further builds on those popular products,” Gillström adds.

With features not found in most other entry-level handsets, the T290a has a vibrant color screen, games, speakerphone functionality for conference calls, a joystick for simple navigation and fast SMS text messaging with predictive text input on an ergonomically designed keypad. The T290a also offers high-quality ring tones and an additional speaker to hear the phone ringing even in noisy environments. The handset will be offered in two colors frosty white and misty black.
